You can and should start training as soon as you bring them home really.

  2. aussie mom says:

as soon as you get him

As long as Training is a fun, happy, positive adventure and learning experience any age is good.

As soon as they start moving around. At least get them to understand things like “No!”, “Drop It” & “Come”. That’ll save you a TON of trouble!!

Start training when you bring the puppy home. Early as possible.

Need to establish rules and boundaries right away.

Definately as early as possible. Don’t expect a perfect puppy, you can have a well-trained puppy in no time! Keep things happy and simple. Teach the dog sit by asking the puppy to sit before eating, playing, going out, etc etc. Just work with your puppy daily and make obidience part of everyday life. Lots of treats and love! Your puppy will love to make you happy. My puppy is 5 months, and everyone is amazed at how well he listens. Good luck!

Most places start Puppy Kindergarten at about 10 weeks. I REALLY believe in a small group setting rather than training yourself. The class combines socialization (SOOO important for a puppy) with basic obedience. It teaches the puppy that other puppies have to mind too, and is an excellent foundation for Basic Obedience classes later on.

I have a Great Dane who’s 8 weeks and we’ve already started teaching her. I think it’s better the earlier you do it.

As soon as your puppy knows its name you should start training it. Just remember to train your puppy in about five minute intervals because they can become easily bored.

Have fun training your canine friend!

as soon as you get it… make sure to keep the commands simple though and work on one at a time for about a week then move to the next one

my dog is 5 months and can sit. stay. wait. shake…and i think one more but i am not sure

    good luck

I usually start training right away, but I keep it fun and entertaining for them. I have found that by rewarding behavior when it happens, they learn to connect the command with the action. I always keep a pocket full of training treats (very small bits of veggie dogs) and when they sit…I respond with “Good Sit” and treat. When they lay down, I respond with “Good Down” and treat. “Good Come” “Good Stay” Etc…Etc…

They learn quite quickly to connect the command. Although they were much older before they were completely reliable, they were following commands by 6 to 8 weeks old. Usually, formal training can commence around 4 months old.

I think that it would be best to start as early as possible because if their out of their “puppy stage” then it would definatly be harder.

I usually taught house breaking first. Little easy things like sit, and come, are very important too. At about the time you bring the puppy home. Another thing I would try is not to allow jumping up. I wish I had done that with mine. No is a must command. Don’t try all these things at once. Maybe one command a week. Along with the house training being the most important.

As everyone has already said you should start training them as soon as possible. I would suggest clicker training because it works and is really easy. I have only had my 5 month old puppy for a month (since she was 4 months old) and she knows how to sit, spin, touch her nose, and lay on her pillow. I am still teaching her to come and other tricks but those are progressing along nicely. I did this over a course of three weeks. I would say this since the first week I spent just getting to know her. She learned sitting in one training session. The best part is there’s videos you can get on line (you tube) and at the library. Definitely look into it, it’s great! Hope this helps! :-)
